Building the New South Madison Branch Library
The South Madison Branch Capital Campaign is thriving with active participation throughout the community. Through a variety of initiatives, the campaign committee is busy at work raising the necessary funds to make the new South Madison Branch Library a dynamic destination.
The South Madison Capital Campaign has a public face throughout South Madison. Billboards inspiring contributions to the South Madison Capital Campaign are popping up in and around the south side as our campaign efforts build momentum. The billboards are a part of the Public Service Announcement program through Adams Outdoor Advertising.
Don’t know what to do with your loose change? Hand designed “Bank Books” for this campaign have been placed at the Park Bank on S. Park St. and the Park Bank on Fish Hatchery Rd. You can also find them at the Washington
Hotel Coffee Shop and at the South Madison Branch Library.
Finally, if you haven’t had the opportunity to learn about the SCRIP program and how you can turn your everyday purchases into donations for the South Madison Library Capital Campaign, visit mplfoundation.org and select “Hot Topics” to read all about it.
Special thanks:
To the Burr Oaks Neighborhood that has been busy at work raising funds for the library. In addition to donating the proceeds from their neighborhood garage sale, they have challenged all other South Madison neighborhoods to raise $500 for the campaign. Additionally, they will be sponsoring a spaghetti dinner and silent auction on Feb-rary 14. More information will be forthcoming on this event.
To the staff of the South Madison Branch Library who sponsored two events on November 14. Chris Wagner, South Madison Branch Librarian, reviewed the book, “Challenging the Professionalization of Adult Education: John Ohliger and Contradictions in Modern Practice.” In the afternoon, Clare Norelle read “The Mystery of the Rabbit and the Hot Chocolate – and Other Adventures”. During both of these sessions, Terrie Goren, MPLF Executive Director, updated attendees on the progress of the campaign and how everyone can help ensure that the new South Madison Branch Library can be the best library possible.
To Tom DeChant, South Madison campaign committee member, for hosting a South Shore neighborhood gathering that raised over $5000 toward this effort.
To the South Metropolitan Planning Council who has been a true partner in this campaign effort by running regular articles in Southern Exposure, the local newspaper and permitting us to insert contribution envelopes into the
latest issue raising over $2000 for South Madison.
To Nellieyah Ngai, co-president of the Friends of the South Madison Branch Library who has been actively campaigning in South Madison neighborhoods as she speaks to residents who are served by this branch.
To all businesses and individuals who have made pledges and contributions toward this very important community project. Collectively, we will ensure the new South Madison Branch is the best it can possibly be.
