Foundation Activities Abound
By Tripp Widder There are many different activities, programs, and initiatives taking place for the Madison Public Library Foundation. You can read about our upcoming annual fundraising event, “Conversation and Cocktails,” featuring public radio host Michael Feldman. You will also learn about the very generous contribution of the sound/loop system at the new Sequoya Branch Library. Another article describes the always well-attended Sequoya Author Series. There is an updated report on the ongoing capital campaign for the much needed and very exciting new South Madison Branch Library and a number of others. All of these activities and events – while varied and diverse and organized or overseen by the Foundation – have a single purpose: to support, financially and otherwise, the activities of the Madison Public Library. Obviously, our primary focus is and remains fundraising so that we can provide the additional resources for collections and programs so as to enhance your experience at the Madison Public Library. The Foundation, for example, provided the funding for the very well received Sunday hours at Sequoya during most of the school year. Beyond that, however, there are many other interesting and informative activities that are supported by the Foundation. If you would like to get involved or become more involved than you already are, we would welcome your participation. And of course, we always welcome additional contributions. They support all the Madison Public Library Foundation activities and projects. Finally, just a quick note on the exciting new Central Library project. As I am sure you have read and heard about, Mayor Cieslewicz has formally proposed that a new Central Library be included in the city’s capital budget.
