MPLF is proud to be a sponsor of the Summer Library Program.

“I really enjoyed my book and prizes. I can’t wait to read it.” —Alex

“Thanks for giving us our prizes and books. We loved your prizes. We love to read just like you.” —Violet

“Thank you for the free book that you gave us” —Desa

These are just a sample of the thank you statements that the library received from a summer school class at Hawthorne School. This class participated in the Madison Public Library Summer Library Program. One teacher whose class participated this summer, mentioned that owning a book of their own is ‘a first’ for many of the participants. Prizes and reading records were made possible in part by a grant from the Madison Public Library Foundation.

The Summer Library Program is an annual event that reaches over six thousand children and their families each year. Starting in early June, preschoolers through eighth graders registered online or at any Madison Public Library location for this reading incentive program. For every five books or five hours a child read, a prize was awarded. Prizes included a free ticket to a Madison Mallards game,a coupon for Rocky Rococo’s pizza, a free pass to Olbrich Gardens, a coupon for Noodles & Company and a free book.
